Miter provides technology solutions for HR companies, enabling them to create customized documentation for their diverse client base. The platform recognizes that HR companies serve clients across different industries, sizes, and jurisdictions, each with unique documentation requirements. Rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach, Miter empowers HR companies to build bespoke document templates (such as employee handbooks) tailored to each customer's specific needs, policies, and branding.
The Problem
HR companies face a challenging documentation dilemma. Their clients need customized documents: employee handbooks that reflect company-specific policies, benefits documents showing unique offerings, agreements tailored to particular roles or industries. Yet creating truly custom documents for each client manually is unsustainable. The traditional approach of maintaining separate document templates for every client creates a management nightmare as policies evolve and regulations change.
The typical compromise is to use heavily templated documents with minimal customization, which fails to address clients' actual needs. Or HR companies invest significant time manually customizing documents for each client, which doesn't scale and creates delays when clients need new documents or updates to existing ones.
Additionally, once documents are created, they need to be filled with employee-specific information and signed. An employee handbook needs the employee's name and start date. Benefits elections require personal details and selections. Managing this process manually (filling documents, capturing signatures, storing completed forms) adds another layer of complexity.
Miter needed a solution that would allow HR companies to build truly customized document templates for each of their clients without requiring engineering resources for every customization, while also providing a seamless way to fill those templates with employee data and collect signatures.
The Solution
Miter implemented Anvil's embedded editor, giving HR companies the ability to create bespoke document templates directly within Miter's platform.
The embedded editor is integrated into Miter's interface, allowing HR companies to upload their existing documents or start from scratch to create customized templates for each client. The editor provides tools to define fillable fields, set up conditional logic, and configure exactly how each template should work. This self-service approach means HR companies can build as many custom templates as they need without waiting for Miter's engineering team.
For example, when an HR company onboards a new client, they can create a custom employee handbook template that includes that client's specific policies, terminology, and formatting preferences. The template is configured once but can then be used for every employee at that client company.
When it's time to use a template, Miter fills the documents using PDF Lib with data they've captured and stored. Employee names, start dates, job titles, and other relevant information automatically populate the customized documents. This approach ensures that each document is both customized to the client's requirements and personalized to the individual employee.
For signature collection, Miter uses signature images that have been previously captured and stored. This allows them to apply signatures to documents programmatically, completing the documentation process without requiring employees to go through a separate signing step for documents that were already agreed to during onboarding.
By implementing Anvil's embedded editor, Miter created a platform that allows HR companies to build truly customized document solutions for each client while maintaining operational efficiency. The self-service approach enables HR companies to differentiate their services through customization without the traditional tradeoffs of scalability and speed.
